Shade Structure Grant applications now open!

Family. Community. Dermatology. These are some of the reasons AAD members get involved with the Academyís Shade Structure Program. For AAD member Dr. Erica Rogers, sponsoring a shade structure application for her local park district was a way to make a small change in her community. "I have two young daughters who sunburn easily," said Dr. Rogers. "When my oldest was enrolled in the park districtís preschool program, I started talking to them about sun protection. We saw the need for a shade structure in a part of the park where there were no trees. The AAD application was easy to figure out, and now I feel that Iíve brought increased awareness about sun safety to my community."

The shade structure application process for 2014 is now open. You can have an impact in your community by educating parents and children about sun safety. Learn more about how you can get involved.

Corporate partnersí employees visit Camp

This summer employees from Bayer HealthCare, Coolibar, and LEO Pharma had the opportunity to visit with campers, volunteers and staff at AADís Camp Discovery camps across the country. We are grateful that these corporate partners took the time to volunteer and see how transforming the experience is for youth with chronic skin conditions.

Chris Billis, Head of Marketing, and Keith Flanders, Senior Brand Manager, Bayer HealthCare spent a morning at Camp Horizon in Millville, Penn., participating in arts and crafts, archery and many other activities. Chris Billis described the experience, saying, "When you visit Camp Discovery you expect to see the obvious Ė kids having fun. Whatís really impressive about Camp Discovery is that itís not just the kids enjoying themselves but also the dermatologists and camp staff. The commitment that I witnessed coming from all members of the team was inspirational."
