Looking back on 2011

The Academy's philanthropic and corporate support programs continued to flourish in 2011 thanks to the generous support of AAD members, companies and others. My heartfelt thanks to each of you for helping us to make a difference for patients, the public and the specialty!

TOUCH to travel

Once completed, TOUCH: The Science of Skin will travel to a new city every four months over the next 5-7 years. More than 30 museums across the country have already expressed an interest in booking TOUCH, but further support is needed to complete the TOUCH project.

Special events and fundraising activities

The Academy deeply appreciates the many individuals and companies who hosted special events or fundraising activities to raise money for AAD Camp Discovery in 2011. For example, camper Ryan Deutsch held a walk-a-thon as his Bar Mitzvah project, saying, "By raising funds and awareness for the American Academy of Dermatology, this helps me not only help raise funds for trying to find a cure to these skin ailments, but also makes me realize how lucky I am."

Stiefel increases support for TOUCH

At the recent AAD leadership visit to Stiefel, a GSK Company, the Academy received an additional $50,000 from the company to support TOUCH: The Science of Skin, bringing their total support to $150,000.

TOUCH is an exciting traveling science museum exhibit being developed by the John P. McGovern Museum of Health and Medical Science of Houston in collaboration with physician experts from the American Academy of Dermatology.
